Her name was Ebony, probably due to her half white/half black face…..ebony and ivory. As she was entering a totally different phase of her life and I wanted her to forget all the negative associations with her name, she became JODI, and little did I know just how precious she would become to me and my family.
I first laid eyes on her within hours of her being rescued from a dismal home. She had been bought as a puppy by a family who ran a nursery school on their property. They put this baby in a ‘farmyard’ attached to the school – in with rabbits, chickens etc. As time went by she killed most of the small farmyard animals, after who knows how many beatings, she was put in a field with the sheep……..Guess what……. this was not for long – Border Collie Rescue was called and told that if she wasn’t removed that day, she would be shot. A foster mom/volunteer went to collect her immediately, when asked what she was used to eating, the farmhand said ‘they gooi the bones’
The moment I saw her, I knew that she belonged to me. She was in season, so I had to wait for her to be spayed before I could take her home. She must have been between 6 and 9 months old and had such a look of confusion in her eyes.
Oh my word…… Jodi had never been in a house, had never walked on tiles or carpet, she didn’t know what dog food was, let alone a bowl ! She was WILD !!!! What a journey we had in front of us. She had a deep seated hatred for men – all men and HUGE pray drive due to all the exposure she’d had killing and chasing animals. So, my husband and I began her rehabilitation……..
Jodi is now 7 years old, she has :
Nursed and raised 2 very sick kittens, now, 5 years old
Stayed glued to my husband’s side during 3 years of extreme illness – providing unwavering support and comfort
Stayed glued to my side when he passed away- providing unwavering support and comfort
Welcomed, loves and is amazingly patient with my 2 grandchildren
Has raised 2 puppies who have since joined my menagerie, they adore her
Is a much loved companion to Quest , my 8 year old Border Collie
And to top it all, she WON the Canine Survivor Test at WODAC this year. She came 4th in the South African Musical Freestyle Champs, she always makes the crowd laugh – she adds her own touch to our routines.
Such is life, I thought I was rescuing a needy dog, but in fact she has rescued me.
Love you Jodi[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_single_image image=”726″ align=”center” img_size=”full”][vc_column_text]My name was Joe given to me by my new dad because when he first saw me he thought I resembled the boxer Joe Frasier, a black eye and full of scars! Please look at my photo’s not a pretty sight but my story has a happy ending.[/vc_column_text][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_column_text][us_single_image image=”728″ align=”left” size=”full” lightbox=”1″ link=””][/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_column_text][us_single_image image=”727″ align=”right” size=”full” lightbox=”1″ link=””][/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_column_text]I can remember lots of pain and trying to hide away from the hurting in my body and just when I thought I could stand no more I felt a human arm lifting me up and although I wanted to scream in pain I also felt warmth and kindness in the arms caress. It was a long road but my wounds have healed and my faith is restored and I found my forever home and had a very happy life. Joe crossed the rainbow bridge his year, but his star is still guiding us.
Without Border Collie Rescue Joe would not have had his second chance, its that’s simple and he needs you to know how important they are to the plight of the other Border Collie out there, so here he is appealing from the rainbow bridge, to you to help rescue them as they are desperate for funding and allow them to help the other dogs out there.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_single_image image=”729″ align=”center” img_size=”full”][vc_column_text]Hi I am Luke, I was rescued from an abusive situation. I was swung by the neck in mid-air around and around by a wire cord and bashed against a tree. Luckily BCR got me out of the situation and took me to the vet.
